This time last year, I was preparing for a working trip to Chicago with my old employers, Craft Scotland, for the prestigious SOFA Expo.
I loved Chicago. In the 10 days I was there it quickly became one of my favourite cities in the world. I found the best vegetarian restaurant I’ve ever been to (Green Zebra), swooned at the incredible architecture (so different from Edinburgh), and found the people to be friendly and very enthusiastic about Scotland. With a view like the one above from my hotel room, who wouldn’t love it?
One of my roles at Craft Scotland was to produce, shoot and edit short films for online distribution, to tie in with campaigns. Filming craft makers in their studios was always a treat, as was drawing out the story of their creative process.
Craft Scotland are off to Chicago for SOFA soon, and before I left the organisation I completed the editing for a large number of short films to complement the new showcase. I made 17 films in total, working away like a maniac for the last few weeks to get the edit finished. I’m really happy with the end result, which you can now see online. Hopefully the lovely makers who invited us into their studios will be happy too!
